Project Runway Week 7 Resort Wear

If you are following closely then you might have noticed that I skipped a week. Week 6 was remaking a bridesmaid dress. I planned on getting one of those over the top poofy dresses that most people LOVE dressing little girls up in. Like an Easter type dress. I am not a fan. And surprisingly I couldn't find one at the thrift stores out here. So, if I ever do come across one, I will go back and do week 6.

Until then, week 7 was to design some resort wear.
I give you the "home is where the dress is" dress (cause there are little tiny houses on the dress)
Vacations are all about relaxing.

(she is about a foot off the ground in this picture)
No zippers or buttons here. This outfit can be dressed up or down but it is easy to put on.

(this is her, just had a red popsicle face)
Tired of helping your little girl get dressed?

The front is exactly like the back. She can put it on herself and will never get it wrong. Vacation for you!
these designs are my designs and are copyrighted. do not steal. thanks.

Project Runway week 5-design a line

Since no one has joined in my project runwaypolooza, I had to design my line alone.

But you won't see a sad face here this week. I am not a team player. Never have been.

I tried to go off of the ideas they gave for what was going to be hip in the design world but I was not liking any of it. So I did my own thing. (why I am not so much a team player)

I give to you:

Blue and gold!

I have always hated these 2 colors together. They were my high school rivals colors. So I always thought of high school when I saw these 2 colors together. But I am finally getting over that.

It was so much fun making matching outfits for the girls. Again, it was a challenge because I used what I had on hand. I had to keep changing my designs to fit the amount of fabric I had.

Ady's skirt was the hardest because I ran out of elastic. I decided to jut add a bit in the back which pulled her pockets further back than I wanted. And I wasn't about to take them off and reapply. Been there, done that, with those exact pockets, (on another outfit).

On to next week's challenge. Hoping to get a jump start on it so I can finally be up to date on the week they show.  But lastly, my favorite picture from the shoot:

Project Runway- Week 4 (hats)

Wasn't sure if I was going to get this up or not. I had an idea I have been wanting to make for awhile but I need an awesome thrift store find and I didn't see anything I liked. So, I decided to get ready for cold weather.

I didn't have any crazy hats lying around and thought it would be fun to make one. Since colder weather is upon us I know we will be needing a lot.

I used a beanie I had on hand to help out with the pattern. And the fabric is from the stash of hand me downs that I have been pulling a lot of make-overs from lately.

I ended up buying fabric today for the pants. Saw it in the store and fell in love. Ady fell in love too. I love that she is OK if she doesn't wear pink.

I didn't make a shirt. I knew that if I attempted one more piece the project wouldn't get done. Forgive me.

I realize the pants are too big. My favorite part of the fabric was that edge of it was already serged and hemmed for me. So I can't make them smaller once made unless I want to cut off the hem. And I want these to be her winter pants. Pants she can grow into. The waist is a little big as well for the same reason.

Project Runway Week 3

Week 3 was party week on Project Runway. I had a stash of streamers left over from a party 3 years ago. I have been using them every year since and I still had enough left over to make this dress.

I was going for a flapper girl party dress. She looks a little flapper and a little pinata. I was tempted to use her stick from her streamer to try and get some candy out of her. Ha!

I made a party streamer to go along with the fun out the streamer of course and a chopstick. They have those at party store right? All the stuff I have been using so far has been things from my own house. No need to go out and spend money when I have everything at home right? Plus it makes it more challenging.

Ady is such a good sport. She stayed up with me late into the night helping me size her dress. (made out of 2 gift bags if you couldn't tell)
She could barely walk in the thing but wanted so bad to play with her streamer so she tried. I had to hold her hand to help her walk out to the backyard so she wouldn't fall and then she stood by me most of the time so she wouldn't fall over.
She kept saying, "I can't bend mommy"
And this wouldn't be complete without a judge. I can't tell what she's thinking but my guess is, "they look crazy, and I can't believe you had to cut them out of their dresses!"
Well, in my defense, I wasn't about to spend too much time on some dresses that were going in the trash anyways. It was fun. Week 4 will be up sometime next week.

One of my friends decided to join in on the project runway fun and made a super cute outfit for her daughter.

Go and check it out!

I am about to start week 3. Let me know if you are interested. I am going to make a deadline for this one to make the challenge a little more challenging! Not that a party store isn't already going to do that!

Project Runway Week 2

This week was Marie Claire week.

She's independent and ready for work and play!

This little girl has her couture style going on and with some pantaloons on underneath she is ready for play.

A little yellow flower dresses it up a bit.

I used to own a pair of pantaloons myself.
When I was 19.
I sported them under my dresses all the time. I still try to pull the style off but my husband just rolls his eyes at me. So they will have to do on my mini-me.

Feel free to jump in on the fun at any time. Would love to have more designs up each week!
I am hoping to get week 3 up sometime after Wednesday. Hubby is on call again so I have another long night of free time ahead. I gotta say, it feels good to design my own clothes again. I am using a mix of draping and pattern making. It has been a long time since I have started from scratch. Too long!

Project Runway Week 1

Welcome to Project Runway kid style!

Since Corduroy has been into crafts lately I thought she might have fun watching the show with me. I figured out that I can actually watch it online! So excited since I have never seen the show.

The first week of the show they had to take a piece of clothing from someone else and use it in their design. So I decided that we would do the same. I was given a bunch of old shirts and I took one of those to use for the project. Clothing from someone else.

Cordy was not as excited as I was but she still stayed in the room the whole time and helped me cut a little.

I have a bad habit of jumping into a project without thinking about the whole of it. So when I tried the top on Cordy after making it smaller, we realized it wouldn't fit over her head. So I went about fixing that problem. While I was doing that, Corduroy decided that she would make me a pattern, to help me out so it would fit. And voile! As soon as the pattern was done and handed to me, the dress was also fixed and fit over her head. Yeah for having a pattern!

After putting in a zipper I found in my mess of a room, and finishing the sleeves, the dress was ready!

We headed outside to model it.

Maybe next time we'll do it runway style.

I have a new camera assistant. She actually makes things a little tougher on me since I am now a one handed photographer. But she is way too cute to fire, so I think I'll keep her on a little longer.

The dress was a success and I think we made it to week 2.

I hope to follow up each week's episode with something that goes with their challenge. If you want to join in let me know. We can post everybody's projects online. Wouldn't that be fun?
