Super Saturday 2012

Last year's Super Saturday was pretty kick back. We did most of the crafts in the same room at the same time. I had one other person on my committee to help out so we did a few simple crafts and an easy dinner. I can't remember the cost of each craft but they were all under $5 and all made great gifts.

Necklaces

This shop was amazing to work with. I received all my items so quick. We used scrapbook paper and pictures to make them with. I printed my pictures off on cardstock on an inkjet printer and used modpodge to glue together and they are still holding up just fine a year later. 

Nativity Pillow

The teacher used this picture as inspiration and made her own silhouette. She had all the pillow forms cut out, we just painted and then sewed up 3 sides  and stuffed them after they dried. 

Flower Earrings

Last minute through Pick Your Plum I got an awesome deal on cute flower earrings. They ended up being pennies to make. I just bought them and then had the ladies pick them out the day of to make. They all sold.

We also had a service project going on at the same time for those who didn't want to make any of the crafts. I would recommend NOT doing this. It was too much and the ladies just wanted to sit around and talk.

American Girl Doll Clothes

Of course since the party was an American Girl party I had to make some doll clothes for the birthday girl. And since her dad wears scrubs to work I thought I would make some to match.

 And a skirt.

The skirt was just a simple square. It turned out really cute. Corduroy picked out fabric and trim. I used a tutorial for the scrubs and it turned out super funky. It looks OK on the doll but the pants are too short in the waist and the arms are super crazy. Does anyone have any AG tutorials that are tried and tested and like? I have a feeling I will be making a lot of doll clothes in the future...

American Girl Clothes

My 7 year old was invited to an American Girl doll party. Of course that means a matching dress right? I was determined to use what I had on hand. So drapery fabric it was.

And if big sister gets matching doll clothes then little sisters need some too. For theirs I went through my giveaway stash and ripped out zippers so I wouldn't have to make a trip to JoAnn's.

And while big sis was at her tea party we had one of our own.

And Ady may have put on a "show" for us reciting random things for hours making us sit and listen to pure nonsense. Do your kids do this? I think we may have a theatre kid on our hands.

Crowns and Masks

I helped with my girls Halloween parties and had to bring something for the bags but couldn't bring food. I couldn't handle adding to the amount of pencils or vampire teeth I knew they would be getting so I decided to make something I knew they wouldn't be getting. Felt is cheap and I have boxes filled with scraps.

And in case you were wondering, I drew the crown myself and just sewed up the back, no elastic or velcro. There are a ton of good mask patterns online if you just google them.

wearable

Most of the onesies I have made are in the 3 month size.

 Thought I would share some pics of my cute little guy wearing them. I have a TON from my days of making them for craft fairs in this size as well so while you have already seen them on this blog you haven't seen them in a cute little guy.

And since I still haven't made it back to the sewing machine I thought I could at least post some pics of who I have been spending my time with.

He got to go to listen to a speaker at a medical conference with his daddy. I couldn't resist putting this on him even though I think it embarrassed his dad a bit.

Mermaid Tail

I don't think I have been in my craft room since Milo was born. That was 7 weeks ago. I know it looks like I have been making lots of stuff but don't let me posts fool you. I scheduled all my posts out.

Just so you don't think I am super woman back in the sewing room right away. I'm not. I did finally get in there last week because I had a birthday party to go to and I didn't want to drag 3 kids to the store to look at toys. It was far easier for me to whip something up at home.

I stole this idea off pinterest like lots of things I have made lately. That place is great for me. I pin something cute and when I need a quick idea I go there instead of spending hours online trying to find something that would work.

I also made a little red riding hood cape. And just so you have another reason to know I'm not perfect, I did try and make some owl wings and they turned our horribly. So don't think of me as one of those perfect bloggers who does everything. Cause I'm not and I don't.

The cowgirl

This is another black apple pattern variation. I took the pattern and made it larger. Then I added some cowgirl accessories and gave it to my little girl who is in LOVE with cowgirls for her 4th birthday.

Dino Sweater

Remember the sweater I made?

Well I added to it and it is so much better. Especially with Ady modeling.

Boy Bibs

These are simple to make. There are tons of free patterns online or you can just draw up your own.

I used different colored flannel as the backing.I think it was about 1/3 yard to make a couple bibs.

And remember these shirts I scored at a thrift store?

They made some sweet bibs!

High Chair Recover

I found this high chair for $2.00!!!!!! How can anyone resist that?

But it was a tad sad looking and I just happened to have the coolest oilcloth ever thanks to my good friend Lisa! So even thought he won't be using it for awhile it is ready for him.

Expecting Perry the Platypus

My girls have been so excited for their new baby brother. My 6 year old has been waiting for a brother for years and her best friend just welcomed a new brother into her home a few weeks ago which has made the waiting in our house all the harder.

To help with the waiting and to help them feel involved we have been making him presents.

These onesies were made with fabric crayons we bought at JoAnns. The girls just colored on paper and I ironed on their designs.

Corduroy insisted on cutting hers out. I don't recommend this for a couple reason.

1. It makes it really hard to iron on. You don't want the paper to move or the picture will look blurry, so if you have nothing to hold onto then your iron has to carefully stay in one spot. I ended up with spots where the holes in the iron are. I tried to correct it but you can still kind of see them.

2. The pictures had an outline and she cut part of that off so when it was ironed on it looked like I missed part of the picture.

 Ady drew a picture of me so the baby would know what I look like. How thoughtful?

 Corduroy also wanted to write the names of what she drew underneath.When she first wrote it out she realized right away that the name would be backwards so she chucked her papers and whipped out the words written perfectly backwards without any help or thought. It was pretty impressive for a Kindergartner.

And because Ady thinks this baby is going to be named Perry the Platypus we had to have a Perry onesie for him.In hopes of her not getting to attached to the name we have talked with her about it and a couple days ago she said that could be his middle name.

If this baby decides to come when the others did I will be in the hospital today. Hopefully that's the case!

And for another variation of this check out Delia's onesies she made with her boys. They are adorable. More work but so worth it I think. If I hadn't already made these I think I would have gone the freezer paper route. The colors are richer and more artistic looking.

Super Hero Dolls

I wanted a boy doll so I took my black apple doll pattern and made the girl into a boy.

I added tights, speedo, boots, a mask, gloves, and a cape.

And since I have 3 other friends all due within a month of me I made some extra.

I only knew the name of one so I personalized it for her. I left mine blank to personalize it later.
